Office of Education & Training
One of Sylvester's goals is to provide an environment for academically oriented physicians that will enable them to develop into future leaders in clinical investigation and teaching. To that end, the clinical oncology fellowship directors together developed a curriculum of core competencies and broad-based lecture topics on clinical, basic, and translational research appropriate for all oncology fellows.
Sylvester has 22 oncology fellows in the following programs: Gynecologic Oncology, Otolaryngology, Hematology-Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Urologic Oncology. The center has established a core curriculum for oncology fellows in order to assist them in attaining the knowledge base common to all disciplines, as well as forum where fellows meet and address issues of mutual interest.

The Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine consists of three, full-time faculty gynecologic oncologists. A unique feature of the program is that the department is located at a medical center and serves a public hospital. Medical students and residents participate at all times in the gynecologic oncology service as part of their core rotation through medical school and residency. The residents actively participate in patient care, and service is directed by the fellows and faculty. Fellows receive an appointment as clinical instructors during their first year and serve as clinical assistant professors of OB/GYN during their second and third year. The care and management of the patients is the responsibility of the fellows.
